How My Son Got My Day Off To A Good Start
You may have seen my Facebook post earlier today. But if not, let me paint a picture for you.
I was in a bad mood yesterday. I just didn’t feel good at all. I skipped a video conference with some blogging friends of mine that I really wanted to be a part of. I couldn’t event tell them why I was a no show. You see, I was in bed yesterday. Almost all day yesterday. My kids must have sensed it too because as a rule of thumb, they don’t take naps anymore. However, I laid them down for a nap at one and they both slept. I also slept. That’s something I basically never do.
If my kids are sleeping you can pretty much count on the fact that I am working. Whether that’s cleaning the house or downstairs in my office, somehow, someway, I am working. However, we all slept from one to three yesterday. Then to make matters worse. I stayed on the couch from three to six and the only reason I left the couch was to cook dinner, then I was sound asleep by 9.
Why? Because earlier in the day I managed to get a migraine and I just couldn’t shake it. This was after my daughter colored all over my wall. You can also see that picture on Facebook. It’s was horrible but luckily it came off with some Magic Marker Erasers. I keep them under my kitchen sink at all times for events such as yesterday and yes, that does mean that is not her first time coloring on my walls. Far from it actually. She loves to color.
So anyways, back to this morning. My son woke my husband and I up at 6 this morning. He’s so funny, it comes into our room like clockwork. We have no need for an alarm clock but we use one anyways. He always walks into our room and all the way around our bed until he gets to my side. Then he unplugs my phone, takes my glasses off the nightstand and climbs into my bed. He’s a sweet kid. Both him and Tiny Tot get so worried when they see me without my glasses on. “You need glasses on mommy! You need see!” they say to me.
Well once he managed to get into our king size bed he crawled up next to me in his teenage mutant ninja turtle pajamas and I said “Good Morning Tator, did you sleep good?”
“What did you dream about?”
Wow. That answer set me back. A smile spread across my face. I want to know exactly what happened, full details please son.
“What about God?” I replied.
Oh, my. Now that’s a big boy answer to come from a little boy. After all, he’s only three.
“He said He loves me.”
Talk about a proud mommy moment! I was so overwhelmed with joy. There are so many times in my life when I feel like I’m failing my kids, when I feel like I’m failing my husband and my self and even God. I worry about whether or not my kids will do okay in school and in life, about whether or not I’m kind and if I display God in life in a way that they will understand. I worry about the bills and whether I spend too much money on groceries or if I will ever see a return on investment in the work that I do. I worry about whether or not my family is happy and whether or not dinner will be on the table and I worry that my house may never be clean.
But. God loves me. He promised.
That is enough to put an end to all the worry, that’s enough to just put a smiley on your face and to have a great day.
