This was my first time doing an interview and it was on video!
Since the beginning of bPatty I’ve known that I wanted to include videos because they are something I enjoy watching and I find it encouraging to be able to listen to something as I do housework. Not to mention, sometimes, it’s just nice to listen, instead of reading all of the time. Not that I don’t like a good book.
(the interview was with a book author. yikes!)
The problem with making videos for this site has really been a personal one for me. Insecurity. Videos show all. I can edit pictures and take out my “flaws” or just not show something if it makes me look a certain way but on camera, you are going to see all of those awkward moments. Especially when it’s live video feed, like this interview was.
What are my insecurities?
I have a much harder time talking that I do writing. If I sit down with a pen and paper, I can write for hours, without ever stopping. When I talk out loud, my words seem to get stuck before they ever escape my mouth, almost as if that part of my brain doesn’t function properly. As a kid, this was always an area other kids teased me in and perhaps I have never truly gotten over that. It’s aggrivating too because I know it has caused me to look less than adequate for conversations. I end up thinking “If only I could bring a pen and paper with me everywhere.” You see, when I write, it’s like a waterfall of words that have been trapped inside me are finally given freedom to cascade across empty pages, they express my inward feelings in a way unknown to me by mouth.
I’m sure you can understand that streaming this video was a bit nerve racking for me, due to the fact I was talking. Only, as I am getting older I am learning that the things which scare me the most are usually made up of moments where I need to jump in at full speed. Otherwise, I may talk myself out of doing something truly great.
I was floored when Hannah actually agreed to this interview. Grateful really. Amazed. Hannah is a mom of five but she is also a published author. I came to meet her through some internet connections we share. When we first met she was going through the process of publishing her book, Redefined: Curbing the Spin on Proverbs 31.
We were blessed with a moment of prayer before this interview went live and I must tell you, it was God that got me through this. I can not express to you how nervous I was. After al, it was live feed! There were so many technical things going on in the background that those watching the video weren’t able to see and at one point I drew a blank because I was trying to figure some technical nonsense out – you’ll notice it on the video. Looking back at it now, it was pretty funny.
But here’s the awesome thing about Hannah, she is very encouraging and conversations seem to happen naturally with her. I believe that you will find you feel connected to her even while reading her book.
You can watch the interview with her here and find links to the resources talked about below. Feel free to leave any comments that you have for Hannah or myself in the comment section below or on YouTube.
I’m thinking of painting my little office lavender purple. What do you think? Should I decorate that little cubby under my stair case?
