10 Places To See Wild Animals In Georgia
Georgia Sea Turtle Center
Let’s start this list of wild animals off with what is perhaps one of the most hidden wonders in all of Georgia. Located on Jekyll Island, the Georgia Sea Turtle Center is a conservation center and hospital dedicated to rehabilitation and research. Open to the public, this is a hospital you and the kids will enjoy going to!
North Georgia Zoo
Have you heard of the North Georgia Zoo? Did you know that Georgia has the largest kangaroo population outside of Australia? Located less than 30 minutes away from the North Georgia Zoo, The Kangaroo Conservation Center is currently closed to the public. Don’t despair! Even though your kids won’t be able to see the huge collection of Kangaroos hanging out deep in the south, you’ll still be able to see a great collection of animals, including Kangaroos! Get this, not only will you get to see Kangaroos at the North Georgia Zoo but you get to see them up close and personal! Here’s the full list of animals the North Georgia Zoo has for you to see.
The Georgia Aquarium
The Georgia Aquarium has people all of the world coming to see what amazing things are inside. Taking a kid with sensory issues or need to know if they have gluten free food options in the cafeteria? If so you’ll want to read about the time that my family went. We adored the Georgia Aquarium and your family will too! There are places where the kids can touch fish, places for the kids to crawl inside tanks and even a dolphin show!
Located in Locust Grove, this unusual zoo has everything from reptiles to bears. What makes this zoo so unusual? Apart from the fact it’s volunteered base? Well, it’s not every day you get to see bears and tigers in the same exhibit hanging out with each other, is it?
Okefenokee Swamp Park
Every Georgian must visit this park at least once in their lifetime. I think it needs to be a requirement. No one should go through life without being this afraid for their lives at least once. The last time I went, my tour guide told me a story about an alligator jumping in a boat full of people! Don’t worry, I don’t think that happens often. It’s never happened to me, but I did made sure to knock on wood as soon as I typed that out. As far as hands on and interactive learning goes, this swamp park has others beat!
When you first set out to go to Dauset Trails you may only be thinking about the trails, the nature walks, and the bike riding. You may even stumble upon the wildlife by mistake! That’s what happened to me, my son and I were walking along all slow and nice when we saw a turtle. How sweet, we stayed there and admired it for the longest. Soon the trail took a turn and I was standing in a room full of reptiles! I’m telling you, this may become one of your favorite get aways in all of Georgia!
Wild Animal Safari
Have you ever watched the TV show America’s Funniest Home Videos? This is the place where comedy happens! There may be 500 acres for them to roam freely but the animals that live here come running right up to you! You might be tempted to drive your own vehicle since you have windows in your car, good luck with that. Do me a favor though, if you go here, make sure to get it on video! You can even post that video to our Facebook page.
Chehaw Animal Park
Of all the places mentioned this is the only place I’ve not personally been to. Although I would like to go here one day. Check out Chehaw Animal Park also known as Nature’s Playground.
The Atlanta Zoo
One of the most amazing adventure’s you’ll ever go on as a family will be to the Atlanta Zoo. Did you know that Zoo Atlanta is 100% debt free? Talk about amazing!
Yellow River Game Ranch
You could go spend the day at Stone Mountain Park and have plenty of fun doing so but if animals are what you want to see then may I suggest the Yellow River Game Ranch? I have great memories of this place as a child and I’m sure that your children will love making memories here as well!
