Are you looking for fun ways to get more active maybe you just want to add more steps in your day? I adore moving but that’s not always the case. It seems to be that the less I move the more I dread the thought of being active. Sometimes it even seems impossible. However, the flip side is also true, the more I move the less I want to sit still. Here’s the thing though, exercise has to be enjoyable. If at any point it feels like a task, I simply won’t do it, even if I know the lack of exercise leads to be overweight and so forth. So what’s a lazy lady to do? Simple! Find some fun ways to get more active.
Below are some of my favorite ways to move. I hope these ideas help you feel better about moving and ultimately inspire you to get up and get more active in your day to day life because if you want to see results then consistently doing what gives better results is a must! Either way, you will have results, it’s up to you whether they are positive or negative.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not snooty with it, I am still very much overweight myself but I do know the importance of being active and I have seen results from the ways that I’m sharing with you below. If I, someone prone genetically to be overweight, as well as someone who has never once been athletic and who adores junk food can see positive results then you can too.
5 Fun Ways To Get More Active
1) Play with the kids at the park
No one ever said the park was for the kids alone. Sure, you could sit back and watch the kids play while checking our Facebook page or you could get up and play with the kids. Bonus, if you are a helicopter mom who fears sitting back then by joining in and playing you no longer appear to be as much of a helicopter mom. Run up the stairs to the slide, heck go down the slide. You’ll get your heart rate up, your blood pumping, your calories screaming for their life and best of all, the kids will have fantastic memories of their mommy playing with them at the park. Don’t forget to drink water, especially if the day is hot! Not interested in going to the park, here are some other ways to make memories with the kids.
2) Dance with ReFitTV
My aunt is the one who introduced me to the lovely ladies of ReFit. While I’ve never been to an actual ReFit session in real life, I have moved to many videos they’ve made. Unlike most decent workout videos these are free. You can find them on YouTube. We have a smart TV in our house with an app for YouTube as well as one for the internet. I simply search for their videos on my TV and dance around in my living room like an uncoordinated fool. Overall, they do a great job at breaking down the moves in steps before they get dancing but I’m still uncoordinated. Another bonus for the not so gifted people such as myself is that each dance only has a couple of steps that repeat themselves but it’s the moving to the music that will make your heart smile. Promise me you’ll at least check them out.
3) Connect with people on FitBit
Talk about motivation! You can connect with fun-loving friends who will help keep you accountable or you can connect with people you’ll never see in real life that will make you feel comfortable and motivated. Challenges are another benefit of using a FitBit. Sure, a challenge sounds difficult and for many, the thought of being in a competition with others is more than they can bear, there are certain seasons of my life where that’s me. For those people the single person challenges are nice. You can challenge yourself and discover great places at the same time! Right now, I’m doing the New York challenge and I live way out in the boondocks of Georgia. I’ve never been to NYC once in my entire life so it’s neat to see something that others see on a daily basis.
4) Dance While Cleaning Your House
Open up your curtains, let the sunlight in, diffuse some oils and turn the music up WAY LOUD while you clean. I do this when the kids are at school and the husband is at work, then I spend all day shaking my bootie and folding laundry. It’s amazing.
5) Have More Romance
Ummmm…… get out of the comfort zone and burn some calories. I’ll leave it at that. Your partner will thank you and you can thank me. 😉
