Have you ever stepped foot inside a home and immediately felt welcomed by a sense of peace? Such a feeling does not just happen but is rather crafted intentionally. Back in the days of full time homemakers women were taught techniques to help create that peaceful home feeling and took great pride in their families finding restful evenings, even at the expense of working all day.
Times have changed and the role of the modern woman leaves no time for all day cleaning but that doesn’t mean that today’s woman can’t steal a page out of an old homemaker’s playbook. Even in the midst of utter chaos you and your family can still create a peaceful home feeling using these simple senses techniques.
How To Create A Peaceful Home Feeling Using The Basic Five Senses
This isn’t one that a guest would ever take notice to but it is one that your children will take mental note of. Establish a snack or drink that you only eat at home and keep it in stock. This could be a glass of sweet tea, fresh grapes, crackers and cheese or ice cream. Have it readily available for your family when they come home. They key here is dependability.
We all desire home to feel like a safe haven and what better way to establish that feeling than with security blankets. Leave a throw on the back of the couch for in the evenings. Add a few pillows to the couch as well. Your guest will appreciated having the pillows when they go to sit down and you may even notice some holding onto them as if they were security blankets themselves.
Its so tempting to come home and turn on the television, only to leave it running in the background. However, television offers little control over the sounds that you hear. Sirens, gunshots, reports of crime via the news, children screaming or annoying tunes. These sounds trigger stress hormones in is, for some just reading those words will release the same feeling. Opt for music in the background instead, a nice instrumentals or worship album is sure to not only relax your body but it will relax the entire home atmosphere.
The reality of a clean house everyday is out of reach for most, a designated clean space is much more likely. Find an already established focal point in your house such as the mantel and declare it a clutter free zone. Having a focal point in a chaotic state will leave your life feeling more chaotic. Clearing this area off and adding a calming candle here will allow a resting place for the eyes. Don’t know where the focal point is in your house? Try adding one that is already naturally calming in its nature such as a fish tank.
Perhaps this is the easiest of all. Adding a simple smell such as vanilla, baked cookies, coffee, or ecucalptus will go along ways to creating the peaceful home feeling that you are searching for.
