My philosophy is that you don’t have to purchase cheaply made items to save a buck. You can usually find good quality stuff for a good price if you look hard enough. It’s the looking that can be difficult.
Recently, I had to purchase an amber teething necklace. My baby girl started teething and was miserable. She wouldn’t sleep well at night. She was crying all the time. She had a fever. It was just so crazy during that time.
Getting the Best Quality Amber Teething Necklaces
My friend told me about the amber teething necklaces, so I wanted to give a try. It was better than pumping my baby full of Motrin and Tylenol.
I saw some sold at our local variety store, but I was wondering how good they were. They only cost a dollar. As much as I wanted to try it out, I knew that there must be something to the cost.
I asked Julie, my friend, and she said, “Oh yeah, that’s not authentic.” She went on to say that amber teething necklaces are made from amber – a fossilized tree resin. This resin has Succinic Acid in it, and that is the treatment oil that helps people. As long as the amber rests on the skin, it releases the treatment oil, which seeps into the skin and finds its way into the bloodstream.
Amber has been used for centuries to help cure cold, the flu, arthritis, inflammation and so much more. They use it today for general health, such as helping metabolic functioning and support the immune system. Of course, as amber has increased in popularity, people have been using it help their babies cope with teething symptoms.
With a bit more research, I found that the really good ones are made from amber found in the Baltic areas of the world. Lithuania is a great source for Baltic amber. They are the leaders in it. Not too many sellers of amber teething necklaces get their beads from Lithuania, but I found a website – www.balticwonder.com. There were a couple other ones, but the prices were about the same and didn’t provide the certificate authenticity. I really need to believe that I’m getting what will work when I purchase something.
After comparing prices and authenticity, I decided to get the one sourced with beads from Lithuania. I am so glad I did because it only took three days, and I saw a difference. She no longer had a fever, she was happier, and wasn’t so fussy as she was before using it.
Using It With a Baby
Amber necklaces can make some mothers worried because it’s around the neck. As long as the baby is supervised while wearing, it should be perfectly fine. The necklace is lightweight and most babies don’t even notice they are wearing it. Some parents will place the necklace on the baby’s wrist because that way they don’t have to worry about strangulation. This is okay because the beads are still resting on the skin.
The necklace should never be worn at night while sleeping, even if it’s around the wrist. Many parents remove the amber beads from the baby at night and then puts it back in the morning. It still works because the succinic acid still goes into the skin during the day to deliver the treatment.
How Long It Takes to Work
Tylenol and Motrin can work in the matter of an hour, but the teething necklace takes at least a couple of days. Most parents report they find that their baby’s mild fever, drooling, appetite and fussiness is better about three days later. It takes time for the treatment oil to build up inside of the body to be strong enough to start doing the work it needs to help baby feel better.
Since it does take a few days, some parents will continue to use over-the- counter pain relievers for three days and then stop. Or, they use other methods of helping baby with teething such as the teething rings until they simply don’t need them anymore. Not everyone believes in the power of the amber necklace, but it’s mostly because they didn’t put it on their baby as much as possible and didn’t give it enough time. It’s not a medication that you can administer orally and then wait a few minutes for it to kick in. It must be something that is delivered through the skin over time to be effective in helping your baby.
The only way you will know it will work for your baby is to try it. Succinic acid is completely safe and natural for babies and adults, so that’s no harm in seeing if it will relieve your baby’s teething troubles.
I’ve decided to keep the necklace on her, and she is now 3 years old. She continues to cut teeth, but there are no signs of her in distress. In addition, I feel like she’s much happier generally. She’s healthy too. It could have something to do with the amber she wears, so I just keep it on her.
I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an alternative to Motrin and Tylenol for teething symptoms. I know it’s helped my baby and would love it to be helpful to many other moms and babies.
