My kids are in love with monsters right now. I have their aunt to thank for that. She came over to talk preschool topics with me and while she was over introduced my children to a video on YouTube by EricHermanMusic called “There’s A Monster In My House”. I do think the first two times they watched it scared them just a little bit but now, everything is about monsters. They love turning around the corner and scaring mommy and daddy by jumping out and yelling “BOO!” of course we make sure to jump in pretend fear at the delight of seeing them laugh.
With their new found creature desire we went to the library in search of monster themed books to entertain them. We came back with a big green monster.
Okay, so you may have heard of this book before now because it has been out for a while. If you have never heard of it before then please allow me to explain. This is a very short story, which makes it an easy read for parents working outside the home. Unlike the other kid books that have been featured on this site, this one doesn’t follow a traditional story line. Instead, it’s more like a camp fire story that helps foster a healthy imagination.
This book is a cut out book where you only see a little bit of the image at the time and with each turn of the page more of the overall character is revealed. This is a great suspense builder for young kids and eventually they get to see that the big green monster is not a scary monster at all.
My kids have a blast yelling “Go Away Big Green Monster!” at the end of the story and I’m sure your kids will love that part as well.
