I have strong suspensions that I enjoyed this book more than my children did. They probably would have enjoyed it more than they did if I could read it cover to cover without laughing, making funny swooshing sounds in between the pages or creating a theme song to go along with the story.
It’s just that when I read this book, I think of an underfed, lanky, college kid pretending to be a super cool ninja in order to grab the last slice of pizza from an unsuspecting roommate.
Even now, as I say “Hoot Owl!” in my head I laugh out loud a little bit.
My kids had no chance of enjoying this book as much as I did.
Bottom Line: This book is great for 3rd grade boys, who may not be the best readers. It’s great for kindergarten and first grade teachers to read aloud, every few pages the same phrase repeats itself so the entire class can chime in. And then again, this book is always great for ninja lovers, owl lovers and pizza lovers.
“Hoot Owl!” Swoooshhh!!!!!
