My son started preK this year. Up until recently he had been home with me each day but now he goes to school five days a week and stays there the entire length of a normal school day. He of course is loving it. Even so, there have been a lot of learning curves for both him and I. One of the biggest challenges has been his gluten free diet. The school he is attending has specific guidelines for food sent from home, those guidelines with a gluten free diet have been doable but expensive.
On my most recent grocery trip I decided to purchase a box of gluten free pop tarts by Glutino. It was an impulsive buy, my stomach was probably on empty that day. I’ve seen these on the shelf for some time now but have never purchased them up until recently. As a rule of thumb I find products from glutino to be a little chalky and typically only purchase their items when needed but curiosity got the best of me this go round.
This morning I slept in later than usually and managed to get everyone out the door in time. Normally, I wouldn’t touch his prepackaged gluten free food, it’s just so expensive. However, I am also gluten free and needed a quick breakfast option for myself this morning. I took a bite of his pop tart and expected that chalky taste that comes with gluten free items but wow was I wrong. These things taste so good! Unlike the regular ones, there is only one pastry per sleeve and a total of five in the box. That’s it. This box cost me close to five dollars. I know! Chop off an arm and sell it.
My son is young and one for breakfast satisfies him, however older kids would go through this box in just two days. The price tag is high but the quality is good, real good. The pastry is soft, not too thick, has no grain or chalk feel to it and the strawberry filling on the inside doesn’t taste like a man made chemical.
Bottom line, this will be a staple in our house for this school year. Now, I just have to keep reminding myself that they are for the kid and not for the mom.
by the way, Glutino has no idea I even exist so this post was in no way endorsed. Have a great day y’all!
